It’s Warm, So Men……

 Dear men,

It is warming up outside. Now, the Bible is clear that modesty is essential, and that lust of the heart is the same as adultery. So I implore you to remember that even though you are hot, it doesn’t mean that modesty goes out the open window. For the sake of your sisters in Christ, please don’t uncover yourself as the weather increases in temperature.

Just because you are hot doesn’t mean you can mow the yard in a tank top, showing off your arms and shoulders. Or, heaven forbid, without a shirt at all… and let’s not forget to mention swimming. There is absolutely no reason you can’t swim with a shirt on. A dark shirt preferably. And keep a towel handy because your wet clothing suctioned to your body when you come out of the water is hard to resist staring at. And while we are at it, I recommend a plastic jock strap under your swim trunks…. Trust me. Just…trust me.

Remember that your sisters need to guard our eyes, so posting pictures of yourself in the gym, all sweaty with your muscles glistening and hard…are….dis….tract….I’m sorry, what was I saying? Oh yeah, we are wondering why you feel the need to post them? Gains are no excuse to be immodest. And who are you trying to impress anyway? Think about it.

God made your bodies attractive, and women are visual and drawn to them, so at church or weddings, or any other time, take care that even if you are hot, you don’t roll up your dress shirt sleeves. Please take a minute to think about how that makes your forearms look and what that does to us women. There really is no reason to roll up your sleeves. If you can’t do the activity with your sleeves down, should you really be doing that activity?

This goes for shorts as well. See, when women see your well defined calves, and knees, they start looking upward and wondering—are there boxers or briefs under there? It just leads to all sorts of thoughts. So maybe think about why you would want to bare your legs… is it because you are hot, or because you are trying to attract attention?

T-shirts. Please, be careful about how tight your shirts are, especially as your sleeves may bulge around your biceps, or hike up above them, baring them for all women to see. And watch the location of logos and prints. Are they drawing attention to your pecs? Or to your face? And while we are at it, are you sporting a beard that is drawing attention to yourself? Or did you shave, exposing your chiseled jawbone? Either way, is your goal to glorify God or to draw attention to yourself? Just think about it….

And lastly, you aren’t responsible for our sin of lust, but you are responsible to do all you can to keep us from lusting. So, if you don’t keep properly covered, you are in fact responsible for our sin. So keep that in mind at all times whenever you are getting dressed, posting pictures, doing any activities, or are in general existing around women. Is your comfort, or even just your naïveté, worth being a stumbling block to us, disobeying the biblical command to love others more than yourself, to be modest, and to keep from offending others and causing them to sin?  We implore you to listen to us and not make this summer, or fall, or winter, or spring—heck, our lives in general— harder than they already are. We need to have some respite from having to do any mental work and seeing you as human beings and not as objects of desire that we want to make babies with. It’s just too much and we are tired.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Your sisters in Christ

*this is satire just in case that wasn’t clear 😉
